It depends on what kind of frog you get. Each frog has a different call. Some, like tincs or azureus have a very quiet buzz that is usually not audible outside the tank. Others, like leucs, are very loud, I can hear mine a whole floor away. If you're deciding what kinds of frogs you want and how loud the call is will affect your decision, listen to some frog calls. You can go to http://www.mistking.com, then click "resources" (left side) and there is a whole list of darts with sound files of their calls so you can hear how each one sounds.

Also time of day at which a frog is typically going to call will very. My loudest frogs ( D. Imitator) calls for about an hour after his light comes on, and than another half hour in the afternoon (about an hour before his light goes off) I cant say about other frogs (or at which times they call) but being darts are typicaly active during the day I doubt very many call a lot at night.

Aaron, I actually get more calling after lights go out with my imi's than during the day with the lights on. This seems to be different than everyone else's experience. Maybe they get it from me
The tics are quiet and should not be a bother.

Yeah.... from 7:30 at lights off until 12 when I go to bed they are non stop calling! That may change now that I switched their day/night schedule.

I am interested in this too. When you say leucs are loud do you mean like gray tree frog loud, 1,000 crickets loud, or what? I can sleep with 1,000 crickets chirping in the same room without a problem, I actually find it pleasing. But a gray tree frog is just way too loud.

Also when do leucs call? If it's during the day or just the first hour of two after lights out then that's no problem. I might actually like that.

Calls of commonly kept species. Darts are diurnal, although my imitators will occasionally call after lights out.

I have all my adult leucs in my bedroom. They are pretty loud and from my experience they call through out the day. Sometimes more in the morning around 9am. Sometimes I can sleep through it and other times it wakes me. How loud? I dont know how loud a whites tree frog is so i cant compare it to that, but I would say a smidget louder than the crickets. Hope this helps....Sara

Well my leucs are not to the calling age, but I'm certain based on what I've heard and read that leucs will be louder than the whites. The whites are loud, and call during the night (another reason to stick them at the gfs place so I dont have to hear them at night lol)
