Default Beginner Questions

Hey guys I need some beginner questions answered....

I want to build a viv and then get some PDF's for it, first off how much tank do I really need, I have read 10 gallons isnt recomended but it seems lots of people build them....

So do I need a 15? 20? 29?

Also what kind of frogs do you reommend for a beginner, my wife was mandated it cannot call loudly....something with a call you can barely hear would be ideal.....

Also any good from beginning to end build ups of beginner tanks in the above tank sizes would be appreciated so I know what materials to start gathering.

Thanks for the info I am sure lots of questions will follow.

Josh

People use 10 gallon tanks because they are cheap and you can fit a lot of them on a shelf. I prefer to use a 20 gallon minimum, but 15 or 18 is a good compromise. You can sometimes find a 20 gallon for $15 or less at a garage sale. (I paid $10 once.)

Auratus or Azureus/tincs are good beginner frogs whose calls cannot be heard outside of the vivarium.

No more than 2 Azureus/tincs to an enclosure unless it is very large.

I made a journal of my first build, but it was a 40 gallon and fairly complex and expensive. Searching around in the parts and construction, and the members frogs and vivariums forums will give you a lot of good information on tanks.

Since it cannot call loudly, auratus or tincs would be a good choice. Auratus do well in groups, and adult tincs do much better in sexed pairs(1 male, 1 female) in smaller vivs. A 20H or 29g would be appropriate for a pair of tincs or a small group of auratus. The larger the viv is, the easier it is to build, IMO. Once you get all the plants you want in there, it can get kinda crowded in smaller tanks, unless you plan carefully beforehand.
