I'm just posting this in case anyone's interested or cares to provide any feedback. I'm not reinventing the wheel or anything here.
I decided to build my own tank after having difficulty finding one of good quality and size that would ship to Nebraska and not be super expensive.
Basically using the design from this thread: http://www.dendroboard.com/forum/par...-vivarium.html
Incorporating the Sherman Vent from this thread: http://www.dendroboard.com/forum/par...ntilation.html
I made this diagram to sort things out in my own mind and to figure out exactly what size glass I'd need (including overlaps and everything). The diagram should be fairly self-explanatory. I made it using MS Paint, since I was too stupid to figure out how to use the 3D modeling programs I downloaded. The only measurement I wasn't 100% sure on was the exact size of the doors. I think I'm just going to wait until I build the whole thing, then cut the doors last.
I'd appreciate any feedback anyone has. I'm sure when I start building this thing I'll discover many fun and exciting surprises I haven't thought about yet. I will plan on doing a build thread with lots of pictures for anyone who might be interested, and so hopefully people can learn from my mistakes.
Notes on ventilation: I really wasn't sure on what size to make these. I have seen a variety of opinions. Ed says he uses 4" vent along the front, for a 90 gal tank I believe. This one is 70 gal. The standard Sherman vent is 3/4 or 1 in tall on the front, and Chris said he also includes a 2 in vent along the top. So I just went with 1 in. Sherman vent along the front and 2 in strip along the top. The top vent would be easier to widen, but I'm thinking the Sherman vent can only be made so wide.
