The "blue" frogs in the paper are a "light blue", almost white.

Also did anyone notice the mention that they didn't find any examples in the wild of the "moonshine" morph that's in the hobby?

Don't expect frogs to be imported from Brazil any time soon.

If they DO show up - it will likely be via Europe.

So I stumbled on these "blue galacts" today...

They look different to me, more blue then the ones in the PDF paper.

Couldn't really find any more info about them from the source at PoisonFrog

Maybe someone ambitious could contact the guy "Nick" and ask about them.

Looks like the pic was taken from a research/farm type setup, but I doubt we'll see them anytime soon if they are from Brazil...

EDIT*
Ok I got ambitious, joined that forum and messaged him about the pic/frogs so maybe I'll hear something. If anyone else has some info that would be great too!

I don't know much as the information I got was word of mouth but these were imported to Europe for sale and some sent to Japan. I would expect to see more for sale as the offspring become available similar to what happened with mysties.

There were blue galacts on a german site I seen a few months ago, but I can't remember what it was. I will try to find it again. They were for sale, get ready.... 1200 euros for froglets! That is a dang expensive frog. These were blue splash backs though, not solid. Awesome, but I don't know about almost $2000 US awesome lol

If the current monte bello dam goes ahead as planned, you might never see them.

Hypo, I believe I read something a few weeks ago that said that it was approved and they were starting to build. I could be wrong about the location, but I know that a dam was approved and is currently being built, that will destroy a large portion of PDF territory. As much as Brazil may hate exporting, why can't they just allow a few select individuals to go in and collect specimens, even if not for selling, at least to preserve the localities.

Meh, ya I've heard about that. I get emails or something about it because I signed some petition against it or something a couple years ago. I haven't read up on the issue lately but sounds like it sucks...and is going to suck.

Yeah... It's been "in the works" for almost 40 years believe it or not. It's been approved for construction since the 70s. Currently what's happening I think is that a day or two of building happens and then the indigenous peoples start causing trouble and it halts for a little while. And then the cycle starts over.

Indigenous peoples resume occupation of Brazil's Belo Monte dam site

Ecological impacts aside, it's simply a horrific human rights issue, since many tribes are having their homelands destroyed. I guess the Brazilian people are just tired of hearing about it and have more pressing social issues occupying their minds...

My prediction is that the government will quietly dispose of the people if they get too troublesome, and construction will go along as planned.

And yeah, the government's stance on the environment is a tough and troubled one. You can barely go into the forest for research and take specimens, but they actually encourage burning down the amazon in order to plant soybean fields.... [/rant]

no these wouldn't be legal, what tends to happen they would quickly get bred by the Germans and you would see them for sale a year later in Hamm give it another year or so and they would be a similar price to other glacs. Same thing happened to fant varadero. I think they were about 300 Euros each but i was saving my pennies for something else

That's what I was afraid of... those dang Germans strike again!!!

We need to amend the saying "every time a new frog is discovered a German gets a passport" or whatever to something like "Every time a new frog is discovered the cool USA and EU/Japan froggers get passports and hunt his ass down"

It has come to my attention that I may have angered some Germans... I don't know if it is because I posted the pic to a popular forum where it is getting more attention now, and/or because of my Germans getting passports comment...

But...
Let me just say I'm sure there are good/ethical German froggers, and of course in the EU/Japan too, and none of this is directed at them, and I apologize if I stereotyped a bit. But if I PO'd people smuggling frogs... Well I can live with that.

But It does kinda suck that much of the world has a far more cavalier attitude towards smuggled frogs or frogs with pretty shady origins, when these are supposedly animals that we love/care about, then we have on this side of the pond (Though we aren't completely innocent either).

Ok now back to the drooling...

Not that I know of... I'd love to see some though.

I've done some pretty intensive google searching on a few occasions and haven't come up with much. There are some semi bluish ones in the pdf article but none that IMO looked like the ones in that pic.

I think the researchers tend to keep photos and info on the downlow for quite awhile to discourage smuggling and whatnot, and be allowed to conduct their research and get papers published in peace; so a lot of times knowledge or photos/video of frogs may exist and we've never heard about those frogs, or only have vague rumors to go on.

I'd bet right now there are pics/vids on someones shelf or hard drive of some unbelievable stuff that only a few people anywhere have ever seen, and we won't see it for years possibly.

Like blue galacts I think were kinda theorized, and whispered about maybe being real but it wasn't till recently that the average hobbyist could really confirm yes, they are real and actually see a pic of one (correct me if I'm wrong ) I believe benedicta were also kept on the downlow for sometime, and several other frogs discovered/re-discovered in the last decade also. Sucks we don't get to see em for awhile but small price I suppose if it keeps smugglers out there for at least awhile.

It could also be just differences in cameras / image processing. Now days pretty much every phone goes to town on images it takes.

Maybe it's because we know the blues are in captivity in Europe.
