Default Wow.. Blue Galacts.

There is an image on a facebook page of a pair of blue galacts. The blue is the color of a blue bullseye/saddle histo. They are pretty amazing looking. The guy said 600 euros a pair.

I wonder where they came from... Too bad we probably won't be seeing any of those here for a while if ever. -_-

I'm on my phone and can't seem to find it at the moment... But there is a thread around here with a big morph guide of galactonotus... Tons of interesting colors that we'll probably never see in the hobby

Tom, I think it was a scientific paper that was posted here. There's also a thread somewhere on here I think by Dendro Dave with some pictures from a German forum.

I wouldn't hold your breath on anything remotely close, you will turn blue and pass out "if not away" long before you see anything like that come out of that country.

There was a zoological release of those in Europe at some point so they are out there(not sure a. I have been hard on the hunt for them and have came what seemed close on several occasions but never materialized. I was trying to bring some in through Sean Stewart and they were quite pricey. But that was a different morph of solid blue, like the solid orange galacts. I have a buddy who talks to this person (the poster of the picture) fairly regularly, so time will tell I suppose. There are some Blue Galacts stateside though. Just not being sold that I have seen. I agree with Scott though... I would not hold my breath on these coming out of Mexico.

Also, the ad/post mentions Euros, so this is another indication that this isn't happening in mexico

Anyone know if it would be legal to import some of the ones in Europe over here, or are these frogs totally illegal here

I know that Sean was bringing them in legally when he was going to. All of his frogs came with the proper paperwork. They were $750 a piece if I remember correctly. But something happened at the last minute and they did not end up coming in with the other frogs. Can't remember what though.

$750 a piece is too much. 600 a pair is pushing it. They can be finicky breeders but they would get established quickly... more easily than eggfeeders with a little luck.

They are pretty darn nice looking, though. I've always had red galacs at the back of my mind but if the blues came in at pumilio prices, I'd be buying a group.

If these breed as readily as the yellow, red, and orange splashbacks, then they will be available for much less I am sure in the near future. However, if they are as hard to breed as moonshines, and to a lessor extent, the solid orange, then I think prices will remain high for some time. When I originally had one of the first groups of solid orange years and years ago, I paid a pretty penny for those in trade as well. Now those are reasonably priced, when you can find them. I am suppose to be in the works for a group of the blues in late spring, so I will keep everyone posted on their progress. I do have a few solid orange tads going.

I like hearing someone doing well with the solid oranges ^^^.

Does anyone remember when DB members were being solicited to donate to preserving species in Brazil, including the blue galactonotus, that would be legally imported . It is amazing what we will believe if we want something bad enough ;-)

Sorry for the slight change of topic, but are the solid oranges a different morph than the oranges? From the pictures of the blues, it seems like there are frogs that are 100% blue, and also blue and black. Are the oranges not the same where there is a natural phenotipic variation?

Solid orange are different than splashback orange. I attached a pic of one of mine. The blues have a splashback morph and a solid morph as well. The solid orange, blue, and moonshine are bigger than the splashback forms and are harder to get breeding it seems. My group I had years ago produced for me, then Patrick Nabors got them and it took a long time for him to get them going. Then he ended up producing a lot of them and no one wanted them. Now they are hard to find and it seems in more demand.

And there's more color morphs than that which have been discovered and described. They are such a great frog.

Yeah, as most are endemic to Brazil, I doubt we'll be learning much about them.

Wait, so are the solids distinct locales from the splashbacks?

My understanding is that the solid orange is distinct from the splash back orange (75%, 95%....however they are described...all the same).

Yes they are different. Much larger frog with a bit different shape, like the moonshine. They are yellow-orange everywhere except for the feet and around the mouth.

Yea, say the splashbacks range from dwarf Guyana to a bit larger in size. Where the solids are like Sip size to hell my old group were dang near citronella in size. But built differently than a tinc. Check out this guy's toe pads. The smaller morphs don't have the same feet as these, or at least not near as big.

Check out page 9, 10 and 14 of this PDF. I'll take a group of the frog labled "D" on page 10, please! http://www.phyllomedusa.esalq.usp.br...2/11295115.pdf

Funny thing, in that document, the author mentions they couldn't find the moonshine. I showed a friend who is a respected aquarist and importer of freshwater fish a picture of a red galact on my phone. He just got back from the Xingu river basin a few months ago and said "there were white ones of that frog all over our camp".

No price listed. So you probably going to have to contact him for prices. They're 3 months old. Cb.
