Default Re: Off-the-shelf European vivariums?

I've often wondered what the differences are between Exo Terra (for example) and "European-style" tanks. Still being fairly new to the hobby, I haven't seen tanks in person except for Zoo Meds and Exo Terra in stores.

Are the doors also hinged or are they sliding?

I see the tank in this photo has a mostly-glass top, which is nice. Is that more standard than all-mesh?

What's the purpose of the ledge built-in to the front by the doors? I imagine the divider is still to allow water retention if one is building a paludarium or for building a false bottom, but why the ledge and that space between the divider and the front panel?

Since Exo Terra's parent company is European (I think), how come those tanks have made it into the U.S. market but not other European designs? Just wondering.
