I think that functionally that tank would be fine for imitators. If anybody gave you feedback about appropriateness, it may have been an aesthetic comment. I usually use some pieces of wood in the negative space for light-bodied frog tanks (ok, and for all the others, too :-) to climb around on and I usually have a background with lots of vertical places to hang out. You do have plants that serve a similar function, though. I think it's a question of style. Your tank looks great, regardless of what frog you choose to put in it!
