This will depend entirely on the species of ant you intend to house. For planted vivariums it seems larger ant species with smaller colonies are the easiest to observe and contain. Smaller, faster growing species like Solenopsis or Tetramorium sp. are usually far easier to get established and fill the tank but better at escaping and harder to relocate if the colony overgrown the enclosure. I’d look for something like Camponotus to start of with depending on what species you can find in your area.

You can either just allow them to construct their own nest in the substrate of the tank, make a ytong/aac nest by carving tunnels into a block and place that into the enclosure against the glass or connect an external nest to the tank with a tube. Depends on what you want to observe
