Re: Costa Rica here I come!
At Tortuguero, the most popular thing is the waterway tours. We stayed at the Laguna Lodge which was nice and had good guides, Franklin and Jason. Take a rain coat. If it is egg laying season for turtles you definitely want to schedule a night tour. They said there was a limited number of people that can be out on the beach while the turtles are laying. One little tour company in Tortuguero said they take people to see pumilio but when we asked, they said it was best in the morning so we didn't go out. On our tour we stopped by the Selva Verde Lodge for about an hour. There were some auratus around, and of course, a lot of pumilio calling. For just relaxing a little while, the hot springs at Fortuna are fun... a little "touristy" but fun. Watch out for the monkeys and raccoons at Manuel Antonio and get there early. Most places welcome tourists and the U.S. dollar, the people are wonderful and the food is good. Oh, and resist the temptation to buy a house and move to Costa Rica. Good luck.
