Default Ranitomeya Fantastica Nominant Type Locality Rediscovered

While looking through the species accounts on Dendrobates.org I saw that they finally found the Type Locality morph of Ranitomeya Fantastica described by Boulenger in 1883. I have to say that this is by far the nicest looking Fantastica yet. It's good to see that a population of them still exists, amidst all the deforestation in the area.
I especially like the white sleeves and collar that they have.
Beautiful...beautiful frogs.

Yes a friend of mine sent me this picture a few weeks ago, truely stunning. I understand this is the original nominant morph which I find interesting as I had never seen it before. I was told most of the population looks like this, the creme background for the orange cap is such a nice combination. I do have 1 CV Fant from Understory that looks similar, every time I see it the thick creme bands are just so stunning. Can't wait for more Fant morphs to arrive.

Ya the guys at dendrobates.org are known for pulling that kind of stuff. SARCASM.

I'm really glad these were rediscovered. hopefully someone will get a project going to protect what's left of them.

My favorite is between these and the other population near Yurimaguas, which the 'Varadero' imitator mimic. But really, they are all completely amazing.

I think he meant it looks like 3 different frogs mixed into one. Not that it was a hoaxed pic...
