Default Terrestrial Thumbnails??

Just wondering but are there any terrestrial thumbnails? Because I went on to a site called Dendrobates. something. (Sorry, can't remember) I went on and one of the begginer thumbnails they recommended was D. ventrimaculata. They said that these frogs rarely climb but I doubt that. So, are there any thumbs that spend more time on the ground that arn't priced incredibly high and are a little less advanced???

Thanks
Alex

dendrobates.org

there are plenty of terrestrial thumbnails.
you have to remember though that terrestrial doesnt imply that the animal wont climb, but rather that the animal will tend to stay close to the ground. so terrestrial frog could be found at 6ft or more in the wild.

the site explains that changing conditions may have caused a number of morphs of ventrimiculata to become "highly arboreal" so they dont say its terrestrial, but that there are some morphs which are found mainly in the lower parts of the forest and some that are found very high

as far as other sp. the first that come to mind are quinquevittatus and castaneoticus.

I don't think it was dendrobates.org but it is a cool website and are people keeping castaneoticus in the US? I'll look right now for it.

Thanks

Lowland fantastica and reticulata will use the floorspace of the viv as much as the vertical space.

Defenitly not gonna get the reticulata. Probably not the fants either. Unless they are kinda easy to keep. For thumbnails, which FF's would you need? Melongastor or hieyda??(Might have spelled hieyda wrong) I think the site was European and had a blue dash bar at the top with care notes and other stuff.

Thanks
Alex

Melongaster, you would feed them either regular or stunted. I would say if you want to see these frogs font consider. I have heard a couple people who have a mildly bold retic.

retics are expensive, small, and very delicate, not really a frog i would consider appropriate if our just getting into thumbnails. i feed almost entirely springtails and it only gets (literally) 5-10 stunted melanos.

‘southern’ variabilis, ‘green/lower ucayali’ lamasi, summersi, and uakarii as well. although i wouldn’t recommend those to beginners except the variabilis. only difficult thing with them is getting them to breed. ‘lowland’ fants arent difficult to keep either, but you wont ever see them till they start breeding.

Any “terrestrial” Ranitomeya, usually arent all that terrestrial when compared to phyllobates and dendrobates. just a heads up.

Out of curiosity, why not arboreal species?

Well, I have a long tank setup and I like the look of it and I don't what to change it. What i meant by terrestrial is like not spending all of the time up high in the viv. The problem is that somehow I can't keep the temp. up in my tank. I have 2 lights on it and the Exo-Terra Rainforest Heat Wave on it and it keeps the tank around 69-70 degrees. Any suggestions???
Thanks
Alex

Just wondering, is there any reason you want a thumbnail to start as opposed to a larger beginner frog that would use the horizontal space, like an auratus? Most of the "terrestrial" thumbs listed are more advanced.
Depending on how it is set up, you may be able to still keep an easier Ranitomeya species, like vents. Do you have any pictures of the viv?
As far as the temperature, that's not bad and you really don't need it too warm. Are you just using a standard glass lid with a glass aquarium and misting enough? That can affect temps.
