Default Quieter call?

Looking at getting in Ranitomeya and was just wondering which of these two species has the quieter call? I live in a one bedroom apartment so don't want to always hear them calling.

R. imitator or R. ventrimaculata

Thanks,
Andrew

I'm pretty sure R. imitator are louder than R. ventrimaculata, although my 'blackwaters' aren't old enough to call...their sound is pretty similar to R. variabilis, which the imitators beat in noise volume.

Check out this link for comparison:

Vents have the quieter call for sure. I can hear my intermedius from 1 floor above if I leave the doors open (not the viv doors)

Thanks for the replies. Is a vents call something you would hear if you were in the next room? Or would you have to be right next to the viv to hear?

Hey Andrew,

It depends if you have vented doors or all glass on the tanks. I used to have all glass and they were pretty muffled. Right now I have vented doors (RPN inserts) and I have imis and vents side by side. I find the vents call way way more frequently and for a longer duration then the imis. My imis will call once in a while but its usually pretty quick and sporadic. This is my experience anyways but I think it depends partially on the frogs. They both seem to be the same volume anyways.

Hope this helps,
Georgia

I would not be so concerned about the calling. Personally I love to hear my frogs call. Even then, its selective. You will not hear them calling all day every day. especially if your just going with a handful of frogs or less. But there are days or times when it seems a lot.

My imitator Varadero are pretty quiet. I really think any thumbnail is going to be quiet enough not to be a nuisance. We're not talking about bullfrogs here! They're all pretty quiet. But Georgia is right on. Vents will call way more often than imitators. Now Zapparos...That's a different story! Mine used to call from the basement behind a closed door in a viv with no vents and we could still hear them over the TV set! They sounded like bed springs creaking.

My male Intermedius calls all day and even when the lights go off. One night he was calling until 2:30 in the morning. My Vents call in the morning when the lights come on and before the lights go out. I think its more the individual frog

Hey Andrew,

You live in the greater vancouver area dont you? Theres a couple of us out this way if you ever want to come check out frogs or ask questions. Or if you cultures crash etc.. As for noise, I have both species in my small apt and neither species calls often enough to get annoying. If you want a quiet frog go for Azureus lol... I can only hear them if I open their tank and pretty much stick my head right in lol.
