Default Help! my orchid is not doing well

My orchid is looking VERY VERY sad. It seems only the leaves under the light are getting the yellowing/browning. Also as you can see in the second picture, it is throwing up new leaves/branches? What do you think I am doing wrong? I fertilize about once a month or maybe a little more with a dilute orchid fertilizer. Could they be getting too hot next to the lights? This has been happening slowly over a period of time, it is not like they just burned. Thanks for your help!

would it be possible they are too close to the light? and since its happening over a period of time its because they keep growing towards the light? the lower leaf looked a lot better than the others. i have no idea about plants though...

I'm guessing too much water, or too erratic water schedule

Edit: or too much water combined with too much heat

Also, how long have you had it? Sometimes, orchids (and other plants) will kind of crap out a little while they are adjusting to new conditions. Happens to me almost every time I throw a new one in the greenhouse, they generally perk up and start showing new growth after a while

You do have new leaves coming in, so that's a bonus. Your substrate looks old and degraded, id repot it LOOSELY in new long fiber sphagnum, don't cheap out.

OK I am going to re-pot tomorrow. I try to water it on a pretty regular schedule, but re-potting will help with that as well since I think the pot is a bit small as it is right now. Thanks for the advice, I will keep you updated.

what species of pleurothallis is the plant? Looks like heat or light stress to me on the older leaves

that space looks pretty open, as well (so possibly a lower than ideal humidity). Which would, in my experience, make the plant more susceptible to heat and light stress

Yes I have been combating low humidity. Still haven't been able to get a mini greenhouse like I want. But I have it around other plants as well as saucers with water in them to try to raise the humidity. When you say heat/light stress do you think it is too hot and too much light? I can't see it getting too much light when it is not even outdoors or in a window. What do you think? In any case I am re potting it today. That will help me water it a bit more evenly anyway, as it wont dry out as fast. Then over the next week or so I am going to acclimatize it to outdoors. Should I keep it in the shade or sun? It is pretty humid here most of the time.

PS it is Pleurothallis truncata
