Default What kind of Bromeliad is this, and is "Pilea moss" safe?

I've been searching local nurseries for Bromeliads that aren't ridiculously huge, and the best I could find was this. Unfortunately, it doesn't say what kind it is. I need to know, because I've read that some Bromeliads can't handle really high humidity. Also, they said it had been treated with pesticides 3 weeks ago, so I'm kinda worried about how to wash it off. Would it even be possible to get into all the crevices?

Also, I've been trying unsuccessfully to find Java moss, but at the same place I got that Bromeliad, they had this "Pilea Artillery moss", which I've never heard of. Any idea if it's safe for dart frogs, and if it can handle the humid conditions?

the brom looks to be some sort of guzmania. these arent nearly as hardy as neos in the viv.

the other plant is pilea microphylla. it will do fine in your tank. im kind of surprised to see a nursery selling it though, since most growers consider it to be a "weed" because of its ability to start growing in every container in a greenhouse in short time.

it really is worth ordering plants from knowledgeable members on here. yes you have to wait, but it tends to be much cheaper in the long run.

Yeah, that pilea is a weed. I've had people in the greenhouse who wanted to purchase some, I never felt right about that. Most pileas are pretty weedy, but this is one I actively pull out of plants. It is called 'artillery fern', although it isn't a fern, it does shoot seeds all over the place. Kind of like oxalis.

The brom is a bit big for tanks, and those big flower spikes will push the top right off a viv. Or so I've heard. Just keep an eye on it. It will grow, it might just grow a bit too big.

The bromeliad most likely a Guzmania hybrid, may not be a small variety. Often these plants are force bloomed early at a small size to make them cute and more appealing. While a flowered plant is done growing the pups will grow to full size if they arent force bloomed as well. I agree with James, if you are patient many people on here often sell nice plant varieties that are more appropriate in size and hardiness for frog tanks.
