I'm not a plant person, but there are several types of ficus vine that grow readily from cuttings. I start mine in the soil at the base of the surface I want them to cover. They get a slow start, but once established, they will indeed cover all kinds of spaces, including glass and they have a habit of growing upward more than outward onto the ground.
Here's a picture of some of the "oak leaf" variety. For scale, the mature leaves are about the size of thumbnail frog. To me, it looks like a wall covered in English Ivy. And, as I said, I usually start the cutting in soil, they will send roots into whatever surface on which they grow and are ultimately not dependent on having roots in the soil. I have recently started cuttings higher up on a Great Stuff background (with coco fiber and sphagnum moss glued to the surface). I embedded the roots in damp sphagnum moss in a little nook and they are taking hold and growing. They like lots of light.
