Yeah they are. However, most the things they'd be sprayed with are only gonna be "active" for a 24-48hr period and these things are sprayed well before they leave the nurseries they come from. A really really good rinsing should be adequate to remove any residuals. This is something I recently became aware of. Before a few weeks ago, I would have not been a fan of using these plants. This doesn't cover everything though so you should still chose carefully.

I personally test all my plants before I sell them so as far as Spring Valley Tropicals goes, our plants are okay to use after a good rinse. By testing, I mean that I use my plants that have been sprayed (and then washed) in terrariums with my various frogs. After a month if there are no problems, I deem that "safe".

If I could provide an honest opinion... Those who are trying to find plants for the first time really should consider shopping online at one of the many plant vendors here on this forum. All of us here that are selling plants (should) have experience keeping dart frogs and keeping dart frog vivs so it really does take out the guess work. Plus, you're supporting us which in turn supports the forum and the hobby in general.

Good luck on your plant journey!

I agree with antone. I grow my plants with frogs in mind. I had a much larger selection before our horrific move this summer, but I was buying those plants from Home Depot and Lowe;s and rooting them out in plug trays and growing them organically and offering them for sale. I don't have a huge selection right now because I have spent my time moving this summer, but I try to keep the frogs in mind with the plants that I sell. However, you will certainly save money if you can find them at your local stores, you just have to wash them very well. Before I started propagating and selling my own plants, most of the ones I put in my tanks came from these stores as well. You just have to wash them very well.

For a plant noob like myself, can you describe in detail what you mean by "wash them very well"? Do you take them out of the pot and soil and rinse the roots for several minutes? Or just rinse the leaves and plant parts that are above the soil? This may sound like a dumb question to someone with a lot of experience....but I just don't know and would like to.

Thanks in advance,

Warner

When "cleaning" the plant, its generally good to wask it all, which includes rinsing off the dirt and what not on the roots

That's what I do
