Growing Mushrooms? (intentionally)
Not so sure this is the right place for this as it's a fungus and not green lol
Ok so I've been thinking I know that some people get mushroom blooms at times in their vivariums but I'm actually thinking of trying to grow mushrooms intentionally.
Has anyone actually tried to grow mushrooms intentionally in a vivarium? I'm having a hard time figuring out the life span of some mushrooms I'm mostly interested in the shelf like mushrooms that grow on tree trunks. Most of the sites that talk about growing mushrooms are for the purpose of harvesting and eating or using them for medicinal purposes so they only give the time until "harvest time" and not an actual life cycle so to speak.
I'm guessing that mushrooms would repopulate over and over if introduced as they populate via spores, but I'm not sure.
Mostly I'm looking at oyster mushrooms which grow on hardwood tree trunks and other shelf like mushrooms on tree trunks if I can find a different variety.
I realize this may seem like a weird question to some but I happen to like the way mushrooms look both terrestrial and the tree trunk variety. I'll be picking up a 155 gallon tank tomorrow and thought some mushroom patches and a mushroom covered trunk would be awsome accents even if they only bloom out a few times a year such as flowers.
