Have you ever seen monstera deliciosa?

it's capable of immense growth, especially unpotted.

I think a smaller plant would be more suitable, for i think even the roots of monstera would make your viv look like a tangled mess of sticks.

and i think the leaves would block out a ton of light.

I grow pothos in the backs of most all my aquariums, quite well too.
it may be a good plant to try, as it's cheap and easy to find.

I haven't observed their roots before but if they produce aerial or prop roots the effect would be sweet for an understory type frog. Not all the plants roots would necessarily need to be in the setup. You could guide part of the plant over to pot or something.

Any reccomendations then?

True, you could trim back the arials in the viv i geuss.
when i took mine inside this winter, i cut off an arial root that was nearly 8 ft long and about the width of a pencil, and my plant only has 5 leaves on it.

i would say smaller creepers like creeping fig, hoya, and maybe cissus sp.

I'll probably just grow a Monstera deliciosa outside the tank.

The funny/sad thing sthat I have 2 Monstera obliqua cuttings in my tank. They established themselves, and sent out a few leaves. Then the lower leaves died. Now they've been sitting for a few months with no change. I wonder what the heck they are waiting for???

Aggressive growers, especially vines, have been known to do a lot of damage, and get their roots where they shouldn't be (such as the ruins example). Many of the smaller vines will grow thru the fiberglass screening we have on our tanks, but if these are removed (or the stem dies and rots out) the screening would need to be replaced. The good news there is that the screen would give to a certain degree so until the stem is removed nothing should get loose and it shouldn't mess up the rest of the screening too much.... unlike having the strem grow thru something more solid, like a hole in a plastic or glass lid, where it would likely crack it if the stem grew too big (I've see pothos grow thru a tiny hole for a misting system and it shattered the glass peice).

Usually tho, having the plant totally trying to lift off the lid is the typical problem when a plant trys to grow out of the lid, which is why its recomended to try and get plants that fit the tank, rather than ones that don't and trying to make them fit.
