Default D. adelea sundew / lost the red coloring in globes

All,

My recent aquisition, a young D. adelea, has lost the red coloring in the little globules on the leaves...could this be a light issue? It continues to throw out new leaves, and I am giving it a pinhead every week or so.

Thanks

Yep - sundews enjoy a lot of light. I wouldn't be too worried though if it's putting out new leaves. It might not grow as fast or be as red without the higher light but it sounds like it's doing alright.

I hope it catches some stray fruit flies for you .

I would actually add more light if you want it to look good and be healthy.

Light, light, and more light! D. adelae can be quite stunning if they're getting enough light and high humidity. I grow most all of my sundews in undrained containers and let the water table fluctuate a bit- but it's mostly waterlogged.

The rosette forms are quite stunning, but I'm kinda partial to D. capensis and D. binata myself

Good luck!

Jason

Any time you change conditions on a sundew, it can do this, especially lighting and humidity. My sundews took a few days to a few weeks (depending on the type) to "dew" up again... adjusting to humidity and lighting. The red coloring points towards light, while the dew could be either light and/or humidity.

How much light are you giving it?

Don't feed it during this period! If it's losing dew, leave it be until it develops it's dew fully. Also make sure it's not in its dormant period where it shouldn't be fed. All my sundews luckily do their "dormant" period in the winter when the fungus knats and small flies aren't around, lol.
