Default leaf litter

Are photinia fraseri leaves safe to use in my viv?

These are trees in the "Rosaceae" family, so I would assume they are "safe" enough as part of the compost, provided they haven't been sprayed with anything. Unlike oak and magnolia, I would doubt it would survive as long as "leaf-litter," and would decompose more rapidly.
