Default Pillow moss questions

Hey all. I was looking at buying some tropical pillow moss for a carpet effect in my vivs. I was wondering whats every bodies experience with this? Does it work well as a carpet? Preferred light and moisture requirements? I have riccia and have some good success with that but I don't know about the look of it. The riccia doesn't have that mossy look to it. Thanks for your input.

My personal experience is that it doesn't last very long (at all) when used as a carpet.
In vivs, it seems to prefer to grow on background materials better, especially on cork and flevopol type mixtures.

Hey, I have some in my viv and some of it is doing good and some of it isn't looking to swell. I have had it in the tank for about 4 months now.

Ok so it's pretty much a hit and miss type thing. I see a lot of people on wildsky.net use it as a carpet. The stuff I'm looking at comes from T & C Terrariums. http://home.att.net/~a.j.calisi/moss.html

I hope it works!

I also ordered java moss from Black Jungle. Hope to get that sometime soon. Thanks for the replies!

When you say tropical pillow moss, that can mean a lot of different mosses.

I have a couple types (mostly/partly aquatic) and the grow better than any other moss I've ever worked w/. They prefer strong light, but will grow anywhere in the viv. Very slowly if not well lit.

If you want a sample(s) I may be able to help you out once we get a week of warm weather.

I have some of that moss from T&C in one of my tanks. Unfortunatly for me it only seems to do ok in one spot, the rest of it's not doing so great. I think that stuff is a lot more sensitive than other mosses. Good luck with it all.
