Default PetSmart - Plants

I dropped off my Weimaraner last night to have her groomed. While waiting for her I decided to browse around a bit. I ventured over to the aquarium section and noticed that they got rid of their tiered overflow aquarium plant tank and replaced it with a new plant display. I noticed that half of the plants were marked, "Aquarium & Terrarium Plants". The display was pretty picked over, but I managed to buy one plant, "Kyoto Grass". I'm not sure what the proper latin name is, but it looked pretty neat. Interesting thing about these plants, they have them packed in clear tubes and there's a clear gel in the tube bottom for moisture. I'm not ready to plant it yet, but will post a pic once I do.

EDIT: I think this plant is, Ophiopogon Japonica

Be wary, I looked up both Kyto Grass and Ophiopogon Japonica, and apparently its not really an aquatic plant.

About a year ago I bought a couple of those plastic tubed plants from Petco. One was a White Ribbon and I think the other was a Tropical or Amazon Fern. I just wiped off the gel and stuck them in my viv. the`re both doing well. John.

Take it from a long time pet store employee,(10 years) MOST of the plants they sell aren't aquatic species.
They like it that way. When the plants die, you have to come buy some more!

Actually, a lot of it has to do that a lot of "aquatic plants" aren't actually aquatic, period. Not a PetsMart come back to buy more scheme. Much of the plants used in the fish hobby are technically marginals that can handle being submerged for a while, or just don't go thru their full life cycle, or stick up some leaves and flowers above water, or slowly fade away after a year or two...

Only bad thing about the plants in containers (which around here are at Petcos, not PetsMarts) is that some of them are obviously grown as aquatics, and don't take well to suddenly being terrestrial about being out of the container. I presently grabbed an Argentine sword, broke up some to stay in water for a future frog tank, and the rest went into a plant tank... and promptly started curling leaves even in the high humidity, EEK! It's currently in a fish bowl where it's leaves come up to the water line (it's obviously a baby of the species to fit in a fish bowl LOL) and the next few leaves will likely start growing out of the water and be better adapted to life in the air.
