Default How do I separate a pup from a larger brom?

I have a larger brom that has a couple of medium-sized pups coming of of it. One is healthy, but is underneath its large parent, so I would like to separate it and place it in another viv where it will have more space.

I have never done this, so I was wondering if there is any special technique. I don't want to harm either plant.

Thanks.

Could you tell us what kind of brom it is? Different species have different pup removal techniques/requirements. Also, is the pup at least half the size of the mother plant?

I think it might be Neoregelia "Tiger Cub" or something similar. It has similar stripes on its base and back of leaves, but most of the leaves look bright green...

The pup may not be half of the parent plant's size, but the parent is pretty big.

Okay. I can help you then. When the pup is about half size or so, you just take a clean and sterilized pair of pruning snips or even a really sharp knife and cut it as close to the mother as you can without actually cutting into the mother. After that, just do what you want with it. Very easy.

Vrieseas and Guzmanias are another story though... :?

Edit: I just want to clarify I'm talking about cutting the stolon. The stolon is the long woody stem looking thing that the pup is attached to the mother with. Sort of like a plant ambilical chord.
