Default english ivy

While doing some research on english ivy to be use on my background i found something interesting. Apparently they are somewhat toxic.

Q: Just how toxic IS English ivy?
A: Ivy is on every toxic plant list the No Ivy League has ever seen. Even the Boa Constrictor Pet Society, the Lizard Pet Society, and the Toad Pet Society list ivy as totally taboo for those types of exotic pets, as well as more typical pets like birds, cats, dogs, horses, etc. It is also listed as a toxic plant on poison control center lists which many states maintain.

heres the link

the article is bias but it does contain good info. I am just wondering if it would be safe to use them. Anyone know any other good substitutes i can use to cover the background?

Ive used it in terrariums a few times with no problems. My house is covered in it.

A good alternative, and probably a better one is ficus pimila.
