Default Pumilo/Doug's bugs June offering

We are ready to send out our next round of bugs! As you are probably aware, springtail cultures can be easily overrun by grain and detritus mites. We go to great lengths to make sure we have the cleanest springtail cultures available. These are the methods that we use to insure that you get the cleanest springtail cultures that money can buy.
How to clean your mite-contaminated springtails
This is how/where we keep them in order to keep them clean.
Pumilo / Doug's Bugs - My new closet
In addition, we check for mites every time we open the lid! Any springtail culture that shows a single mite immediately gets pulled to be either cleaned or used for personal use in my own frog room.
We specialize in getting you CLEAN springtail starter cultures and we get them to you alive. We also do our best to offer you a clean, mite free isopod culture. We find that Isopods tend to produce better when fed more than just active bakers yeast. The varieties of foods used on isopods has the possibility of bringing in mite eggs. We find that mites do not decimate isopods the way they do springtails. We also find that when your isopod cultures really get cranking, the mites disappear. They either out-produce the mites or perhaps they are eating the mite eggs.
I have put together the most comprehensive guide to culturing springtails and isopods that I possibly could. Thank you to everyone who has added their own findings and experiences to this guide.

Here is our guide to good Isopod foods.

Shipping and ordering details

Things have to change a little bit in order for me to continue being able to offer these to you. I will be offering occasional shipping dates and all current orders will go out on that date. If you decide to wait until the last minute to finalize your deal and send payment via PayPal, you may be too late to ship this round. Please understand that only making payment will finalize your deal and insure that I still have your requested bugs available.
My next shipping date, weather permitting, is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19th. USPS priority mail will be used so expected show up date will be Thursday, June 21st, but invariably some will take longer and will not arrive until Friday, June 22nd. Shipping charges will be $15 per box and this includes one Phase 22 panel for temperature control. An insulated box will be used which is also included in the $15 price. If temperatures are extreme in your area you may require an extra Phase 22 pack for an additional $5. I can fit quite a few cultures into this size box. For instance I can fit 5 springtail cultures and 6 isopod cultures into this box. A larger size box for bigger orders could run an extra $5 or so. I do NOT make any money on shipping. Actual shipping charges and the price of shipping supplies costs me more than I charge.

There is a minimum order of 2 cultures or $20. Thanks for understanding.

Here is what is available for this round.

*Dwarf White Isopods "Starter culture"
-- These are started with 25 or more adults -- $6 This batch has been started for some time now and will include many babies and juveniles.

*Dwarf White Isopods "Double Starter" -- These are started with at least 50 adults -- $10 This batch has been started for some time now and will include many babies and juveniles.

*Dwarf White Isopods "Large starter"
-- started with 100+ --$18 This batch has been started for some time now and will include many babies and juveniles.

*Dwarf Grays "Starter Culture" -- These are started with at least 25 adults -- $10

Dwarf Purple "Starter Culture" -- These are started with at least 25 bugs -- $12 These have been started for a month or so and most will include babies/juvies

*Giant Orange Starter Culture -- These will have 15 sub-adult and adult specimens, sexually mature and able to begin reproducing now -- SALE $10 each or 2 starters for $16 These have been started for a while and most will include babies/juvies

*Temperate Springtails -- OUT OF STOCK -- restarting my stock after a setback from the heat

*Pink Springtails -- These will come as a smaller, 8 oz culture but they'll have at least a couple hundred springtails. These are my favorite springtails -- $8

*Mixed springtail culture -- These will come as a smaller, 8 oz culture but they'll have at least several hundred mixed Pink and Temperate springtails! These mixed springtail cultures are a great bargain for seeding your viv out with. If you try to culture them long term, eventually one type of springtail will outcompete the others. --$8

*LIMITED Silver Springtails -- These are my first offering of these and availability is limited. -- $10

*Giant Black Tomocerus Springtails -- Availability is limited. It seems to be a little trickier to have long term success with these. Beginners would do well to start with other types. You will receive enough to get a nice start going, perhaps around 100. -- $10

Thanks!

Don't forget your .3 micron filter discs to keep your cultures well aerated and mite free!

And, a shameless plug for my son's Varadero computer mouse pads.
Mouse pads...or Frog Pads??

Here goes Doug bugging us again. Before you know it he'll post a picture of his pug on a rug. He's so smug, but at least he's no thug, which you wouldn't guess if you saw his mug.

I will give a little plug for Doug's bugs. I was so happy with mine I wanted to give him a hug but all he did was shrug.

Doug - I'll be hittin' ya up for more springs.

I need a drink now from the ole jug - chug a lug...

OK, I'll play

There once was a fellow named Jim
I'd get headaches talking to him
For you see he'd go on
just so tragically long
Till we all saw, he was a bit dim!

Go to your nearest park at midnight, third bench on the right. Bring a bag of salted peanuts and a hot pink feather boa. When he approaches, tell him that he has grande pantalones and be prepared to respond in kind to the secret handshake.

Whatever you do, never EVER look him in the eye!

If this fails to appeal to you, just PM Doug and he'll take care of you.

Giant Black Tomocerus are gone unless I've already sent you an invoice for them.
Thanks!
