Default Nikon D90

I was asking about the Nikon D300 earlier but didn't buy it because it was $1800 with no lens. They have since come out with the D90. This camera is still 12.3 megapixels like the D300 but it does video as well. The D90 is $1300 including a lens 18mm X 105mm. $1000 for just the body. I could buy the body alone and use my D70 as a trade in and get $150 for it. I would use the lens that came with the D70 18mm X 70mm.

I am kind of ignorant on the different lens and what is better but is it worth the extra $300 to get the 18mm X 105mm lens (with the D70 lens, the trade in value is $250). I want to stick with Nikon because I have the telephoto zoom lens 70mm X 300mm and will be getting the macro lens (sigma version - the nikon version is too expensive for me). Not to mention, I have the external flash and other accessories.

So if I get the camera body alone, with my D70 trade in the camera will cost $850 and if I get the lens that comes with it the total cost with the trade in willl be $1050

Here is the add for the camera and lens http://www.wolfcamera.com/product/541532974.htm

That lens to buy separate is about $400 so you are getting it for $100 less. It is not a bad lens at all and would be a good walk around lens. But if you already have an 18x70mm and a 70-300mm then I would not get the other lens since you have those focal lengths already covered. I would use that $300 to get my macro lens. You mentioned Sigma for the macro but if you have not already take a look at the Tamron 90mm SP Di Macro as well. Fantastic lens for a little more than $300. I have one and LOVE it. I can throw up some shots I took with it if you want using my D80 and D200.

That would be great. Thank you very much. The macro lens is a christmas present from my husband. I want to get it now but he would kill me because that would be the 3rd time I buy something for myself that my husband wanted to get me as a gift for an event. I have no idea why he gets upset..I could give him 100 more ideas of what else I would like for a present...frogs, frog tanks, frog room, GC for frog stuff, bigger SW fish tank, computer, etc.

These are all from my Tamron 90mm macro using either the Nikon D70, D80, or D200.

The shot of the coral is FANTASTIC. I'm a Canon person like Kyle, but you can't argue with results like that. The focus is really quite good, but it's the color that I'm most impressed with.
I'd agree with the previous posts though, your main concern now should be to get a macro lens.

Thanks for the comment.

And Candy, are you happy with you D70? If so, maybe you can just buy some nicer glass and sit on D70 for a while because the prices seem to be falling right now on some of the cameras from Nikon, especially if you don't mind buying used. I had the D70 and I loved it and thought I needed to upgrade so I got a D80 and then I thought I had to upgrade again so I sold both the D80 and D70 and bought the D200. I regret selling my D70 even though I love the D200. But if you look at the pictures I posted you can not tell which picture was taken with which camera and there is at least one picture from each of the three different cameras. Just goes to show how important good glass is.
