Default "Different" Idea for a 10 Gallon Thumbnail Tank

For my first vivarium, I will probably be getting D. imitator. I know, that these frogs are smaller, and will probably need melongaster FF's, and I probably won't see them that much, but I just love them...

So...here's my rather long question.

I was looking at the beginner frog FAQ's (see, I did read it  ), and it said, that in general smaller frogs will soend more time in trees, and off the ground. Well, since D. imitator only gets about the size of a quarter, I was thinking of ways to make a taller tank out of a standard.
I was wondering if there is any way I could stand the 10 gallon up, longways? So it would be like a 10 gallon vert.? Could I make some kind of door with acrylic sheets, then cut a square out in the middle, and put hinges on it, and a door catch, so that I could have access to the rest of the tank?

Has anyone tried, or done this before? If you have, could you either reply, or PM me?

Thanks!
Brock

I searched for "vert construction" looking for all terms and came up with some good stuff. These two stuck out during a quick glance.

Searching for various terms will prove invaluable.

I have made a 10gal vertical aquarium. I took a peice of cork and cut it to fit across the opening, and then used a screen top.

Heres a good site that shows u how to make a 10gal Verticlal tank

I keep my trio of imitators in a 10 vert.
If you did not know 10 gallon verts are an extremely common sight in thumbnail pdf husbandry while it provides adequate space for a pair of arboreal thumbs.

I would highly suggest that you get a book(I never start a hobby without reading at least one) I recomend for you:

Professional Breeders Series Poison Frogs By W. Schmidt and E.W. Henkel

Why? It has alot of information for the size and covers many species rather well. My first frogs were 4 D. ventrimaculatus never lost one and know they are breeding. Then I raised P terribilis tads from tads and 7 out of 7 made it out of the water in perfect condition! Further more i got my D. imitators a trio and they are happy as ever and are calling and showing signs of breeding know that they are getting older! Planning on a pair of retics when the weather gets better, i am on a list! As you can see this hobby is addctive and with the right care and a book or two you are set.

Have Fun
