Default Cost of a 200gal tank

I have a 200gallon fish tank with an 18'' stand that I all got for free. I'm just curious as to how much this is worth if I were to sell it. There's nothing else with it just the tank and stand.(no hood, lights filter etc.) thank you for anyone who can help!

If you have a local aquarium or reef club with a forum, you might want to check their "for sale" area for going rates in your region. Likewise, Craigslist can give you a good idea.

Around here, a 200 gallon tank and stand, not reef-ready or otherwise drilled, and which can be demonstrated to not leak, would probably go in the $150 - $200 range, plus-or-minus $50. That's assuming a typical 72" or 84" 200; the 18" stand kind of throws me -- that's awfully low, and if it indicates an "oddball" size tank (like a Marineland "Deep Dimension") you might get a fair amount more if you find someone looking for that particular size tank, otherwise you'd probably figure on subtracting some for the low stand.

Yeah it's a 72''x30''x24''. I would of thought it'd go for more then 150-200. Thanks man!

Around here, a couple of years ago it probably would have -- but a few years of bad economy driving reefers out of the hobby has pushed prices down a ways.

Also, particularly with reef tanks, the price of the glass box can be a very small part of the total investment, so often people spend the difference to go new, get the warranty (and on large tanks, often delivery), and not sweat things like scratched glass, whether copper has ever been used in the tank, etc.

Yeah you make a valid point. Well I'll see what I can manage out of it. I was going to use it as a dart tank (still might) but I put it on Craigslist with a bunch of other stuff or trade and had an overwhelming amount of people ask about it. I figured if I could get a few hundred I could get a couple smaller tanks at the $1/gal sale or find some on Craigslist. It would be nice to do a huge tank but also nice to do a few smaller.

In this area, if you can get $1.00 per gallon for a used tank you are doing good. If it is drilled for Reef filtration or is just in fantastic shape with filtration you can get a little more.

once you get into 100gallon or more.. $1.50 per gallon would be fair..

put whatever you price you want.. you only need 1 buyer

Or some times odd sizes / shapes, if you can find a buyer who has been looking for a very specific layout. Also sometimes low iron glass ("starfire", etc.) and / or euro-braced "brick" tanks (extra-thickness glass and no braces across the top to block light) can increase the price.

not bad as long as you have room for all those tanks. Going to cost a fortune putting frogs in all those
