windshield wiper pump for a mister

anybody know if a windshield wiper pump would work as a mister? better yet, has anybody tried it?

I'm going to try to find a used one tomorrow to torture test. Should be able to get one for free from a salvage yard for testing purposes. I just got a 6 way 3-12v dc power supply that should help to dial something in.

I cant see them not working (I am an auto mechanic of 15 years) but they are very loud even brand new out of the box. Just food for thought

I'd be careful with that. Do you know what the pump is lubricated with, and that the rubber impeller isn't leeching anything toxic? Wiper pumps aren't made to food-grade standards. It may be ok, and it may not.

As I notice my walmart humidifier collect dust since having been replaced by the far superior repti-fogger I've decided to scrap the idea. I can't help but atleast contemplate the "what would McGuyver do" approach.

I know you've said you're giving up on the idea and were only going to test it with a used pump, but just in case anyone else comes across the thread, I shall say the following!

It's worth bearing in mind that if the pump is used, it may have had antifreeze screen-wash running through it. Ethylene glycol, a common component of these, causes irreversible acute kidney failure in most species.
