Re: organizing a new dart room: where to get...
Not sure what they're selling over at Lowes these days, but before, their shelving was way over rated. The gauge of wire used in the construction wasn't big enough to prevent bowing with heavy tanks. 1500lbs per shelf seems pretty high to me, plus you don't need near that much anyway. They may hold that much but I bet they bow alot in the process.
The 72"x48"x18" wire rack at Sam's Club, in the store, is rated for 600lbs per shelf. This is a real number. You get six chrome shelves with good size wire, casters included for $88. (was $75 a few months ago, no shipping costs either) I couldn't find a comparable Alera unit for that price. I may have missed it and I would pick up a couple of the Aleras if someone can point me directly and the total cost was cheaper.
As a data point, my six fully loaded Sam's racks have served me very well.
If cost is a strong factor, and you or someone you know is handy, then 2x4s and straps are an easy, flexible way to go. You can build them quickly, they're strong, and they can be built to fit your size tanks exactly. The 48" wide wire racks are really only like 45" between the posts so you're limited to the size and number tanks that will fit nicely in that width.
As an aside, make sure to do all your planning and prep work first. Layout, plumbing, electrical, heating/cooling, insulation, ect. It's a real pain to move things afterwards.
