Default Sherman Tanks lids: Zoo Med compatibility?

Does anyone know if the 12"x12" and 18"x18" models can sit on Zoo Med inner lip frames?

You should send him a PM or ask the person you got it from.

The guys who produce and distribute these don't know for sure. Considering purchase and would appreciate input from anyone who has either and can confirm/deny firsthand.

Bummer, well maybe someone who has both can take a pic of the tops and post them side by side so you can see if the zoomed has any strange structures that may get in the way.

Venting for air exchange.

The ZooMeds have an obstruction (plastic housing for the hinges on their doors). Exo Terras don't have this issue.

Long story short, I don't think the Sherman lids would work on Zoo Meds. This conclusion is based on what I've seen of the Sherman lids (which seem to be perfect squares or rectangles with "normal" corners).

However, I know someone who can cut customized vented lids that would fit Zoo Meds (anyone interested, feel free to PM me to avoid vendor feedback on this thread).

I'm going to preface this by saying I've never seen the top of a ZooMed, but are you sure you didn't get that backwards?

The one exo I have definitely has 2 obstructions for hinges. No idea about zoomeds but I do know they have 1 door.

Ah, you're right! Sorry, I was tired...The way mine are set up, I have the hinge housings taped over. Keep forgetting that they're there.

Though the hinge housing on my ZooMed is a little bigger than the Exo Terra hinge housing. Also makes it harder if your glass isn't cut perfectly, because the single housing unit makes the whole lid sit at an angle.

Just cut the glass smaller so that it will still sit on the lip by the hinge of either brand. I have done this its pretty simple, and cant see why any one would pay for this when cutting glass is so simple.

That's how mine were done, can't speak for Sherman lids but I'm guessing they also account for the hinges.

That's what I figured, I was like that doesn't sound right because zooMeds have 1 door...

I think OP's best bet is if someone takes a pic of those 2 tanks and posts them side by side.

Or contact Chris and ask if he'll make one for a zooMed. That's the easiest solution and as far a prices go for making custom tops for tanks his prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the work.

I went ahead and purchased an 18"x18" and a 12"x12". Both fit quite nicely on my Zoo Meds after I pried the plastic slots for the lid tabs off the rims with a bone cutter (coral fragging tool — pliers would have been fine), which permitted the glass to sit level on the inner lip.
