Default How thick glass for my 43"x20"40"

I'm making a new vivarium and the measurements will be 110cmx50cmx100cm(43"x20"x40").

Man, who is going to glue the glass for me suggested me to use 8mm(0.315 inch) glass glass but I think that's a little too much. The viv would be heavy and expensive.
Will 6mm(0,02 inch) glass do?
What thickness of the glass do you have for vivs that are around my size?

If it were to hold water like an aquarium, 8mm would be pushing it as too small. If it will be strictly a viv I think you could get away with 6mm but I'd probably lean towards 8mm still, you can never be too careful.

IME of building things and such, I'd say thicker is better, and safer. Good luck w/ your decision, just remember the rest of the "investment" is going in this tank, and if it's solid it's gonna last a long, long, time. 8)

I don't plan on having a paludarium. There will be maby 10cm of water on the bottom for the waterfall and river stream but that's enough.

A well known company in vivariums makes 100x50x70 vivs out of 4mm glass... So I figured 6mm should be enough for mine.

because of the way it is constructed 6mm will be fine ... having worked in the glass trade for years i have never seen 8mm. it may be different that side of the pond . if your that worried about it why not get the glass toughened its not that much more expensive and at least you will have piece of mind

What is toughened glass, and how do you get the glass that way?

Tempered I believe is what he's referring to. You can find it at most glass shops, but you'd need to order it or get it in a size they already have, it doesn't just cut like regular glass.

For the front glass I want a so called "white glass". It doesn't filter light and as far as my friends told me, vivs with it looks great.

Look for "starphire" glass. That's a trade name, what you really want is a low-iron glass of any brand, can't think of any brands at the moment though.
