Default To side wall or not to side wall...that is the question

My tank is 24" tall, 20" wide and 18" deep and I have a background only on the back wall. One side has to remain free of a wall cover so I can access the pump but the other side currently is glass with a coco hut and tall round piece of corkbark packed with soil (around 8" of soil) with 2 broms planted. (I don't know how to post a pic on this forum but photos are on Dart Den ( http://dartden.com/viewtopic.php?t=3089 )if you need to see what I am trying to describe. My question is, will it provide the frogs room if I put coco fiber along that wall and maybe attach more cocobark and little shelf type places for the frogs to sit on? Will they realistically get up there and hang out?

Hey there!

I tried to check out your pictures on Dart Den but they didn't load up. I imagine that posting on DD shouldn't be too much different than it is here. I think a lot of people here use sites like Photobucket, ImageShack or Flickr and then just copy and paste each picture's IMG tag into the posts they're making. I hope that helps.

As for whether or not your frogs would make use of the additional background in your tank, I think it might really depend on the tyoe of frog(s) you are putting in there. Ones that are more arboreal would probably love it while more terrestrial frogs might just think it looks pretty and go on with their day. So for the frogs, I'd consider that side of it as something generally functional, but there's one more important side...what would YOU like your tank to look like? If you feel that you'd like to have some more background going along the side of your viv, then I'd say go for it! Given the size of your tank, I can't imagine that doing so would do any harm to your frogs (unless of course you made it out of radioactive, bacteria-infested, hardened muscilage :P ). If you're worried about space or how it might look, then try putting a few things along that wall just to see what it looks like. That way you can always scrap the idea if you don't think it'll work for you! Anyways, that's my two cents! Either route you take, best of luck to you!

Ross.

To be completely honest, I do not get into the look of the vivarium as much as I do actually having frogs in it. I pretty much wanted to set it up so the frogs are happy. I am still trying to decide on what kind of frogs. Either two Azureus or possible four Auratus, 3 if four seems to be too many. I am going to add a few pieces of corkbark to the back of the wall so if they like to climb, they can have perches up high too. My husband came up with the idea to make it look kind of like stairs and leading to the top of the waterfall. I liked that idea and felt that the creeping fig that is draped down needs to be planted in the soil so I am going to have a piece of longer cork bark that can hold a small amount of soil in it to root the pieces of creeping fig to. I cut the cork bark into pieces and will attach them once the drill is charged. (I feel kind of cool because I learned to use the miter saw).

I am going to look into photobucket and see if I can't upload my pictures to that. I couldn't figure out how to attach them here so I just referred to dart den.
