Default What are you doing with your EpiWeb???

Many of you have picked up the EpiWeb branches, pots and sheets I have been offering in my store and I wanted to see what you were using it for. I have heard a great number of interesting ideas beyond what I had in mind so I would love to hear yours...how it's going and see photo's if possible.

Thanks!

I keep going back and looking for shredded epiweb to use for coating backgrounds and substrate, but I haven't seen any available. So unfortunately I can't aswer your question.

Is shredded epiweb available, or is it a figment of my imagination?

Well, I have not tried it but when I was at Stowe Botanical's Orchid Pavilion near Charlotte NC recently, here is what they are doing with it.
Each of the arches in this photo is covered with it.

I just got mine today.
I want to use it for my back ground with egg crate.
Hope to work on it this weekend.

I'm currently using it in my 55g freshwater planted aquarium

I have three Anubias petite mounted on it in three places in my branch as well as having used it for some of the planted plants, testing it as a rooting place.

In that second picture you can kinda see some of the Epi sticking out above the substrate before I added more substrate above it. I made a bit of a mistake being in a hurry with that plant so it looks funky right now but it's getting better.

I need to order more for non aquarium uses but I have to wait now until after rent/utilities.

The answer is yes. It is available in little cubes. Not shredded to a powdery consistency however. Someone bought out all of the substrate I ordered in one swoop so I didn't get to play with it. I am looking to order a large quantity of the substrate in my next order but currently I can't place an order large enough to make it affordable. I am really curious if it can be used as a lightweight substitute for LECA or eggcrate in false bottoms.

I know for a fact that it makes an excellent substrate planting...particularly orchids, broms and air plants.

I've moved some mini orchids from fine bark and mounts to the chopped Epiweb, jammed rather firmly around them. They seem happy and are growing; didn't act shocky from the change.
I would like it better if I had misting and drainage systems in their terrarium, because the epiweb in little pots dries out quickly and needs to be watered almost daily, and I'm tired of draining the swamp turkeybaster style.

I was thinking about doing the walls and floor in epiweb and running a small stream of water through the sides. Hopefully it will turn into a moss covered stream-side looking set-up.

Chris, do you accept visits or pick-ups? I'm right around the corner and will be getting some from you shortly...

Sure Josh...always great to avoid the shipping costs.

Let me know what you are interested in however as I need to order some more sheets. The manufacturer hasn't been responding to my emails so it is taking me longer than I wanted. If enough people show interested again I will up the order and thus be able to get the price I did last time. Currently they will drop my discount and it will barely pay for itself.

Wish they made this stuff in the states!!!

What is EpiWeb made of? It looks similer to loose coco matting or even synthetic evaporative cooler material.

Best,
Jay
