Default leaf litter

What kinds of leaves are acceptable? Im hoping to use something from my yard to cut down on costs, and have seen others say they are using oak tree leaves.. I have oak trees but wanted to make sure it was all species of oak tree's, there a bunch of magnolias on my school's campus as well, but im not sure about pesticide use on them..

Thanks!

Usually any hard drying, sturdy leaf will do. Oak and Magnollia are the most popular. The ones from your yard should be fine. Some people rinse, some boil, some soak in mild bleach, some bake the leaves. I personaly give them a good cleaning in warm water and then let them dry. I would worry about pestisides from the ones at your school though.
