Default Ultrasonic Humidifier

This seems to be a hot topic, and now I understand why. I went and picked up one at walmart and got the plumbing fittings at Lowe's. Just started running it about 10 min ago...and I have to say I am very impressed. A big thanks to all the people that described how to set one up. Daily hand misting is a thing of the past! I managed to set the whole thing up with $7 worth of plumbing parts, and managed to find a fitting that I didnt have to silicone in.

I don't have a fogger/ultrasonic humidifier currently, but I have heard it works best if the humidifier is higher than the tank, like on a shelf or something, so the tubing is all hanging down. If the tubing is horizontal, try to minimize any 'dips' in it. This should help minimize water backup in the hose.

...But we'll see what some of the pro's have to say.

I would like to see how you set yours up... have not gotten one yet due to the hazard it poses if you had it open in your tank....

This is an out of tank ultrasonic humidifier that you can buy at walmart. I have a 1/2" tube that runs into the tank where the frogs cant get to it. They are not hazardous to the frogs like the in tank ones.

I tried to do this myself and put the humidifier on a shelve above my tank..it worked for about 5mins and stopped because of the water backing up as well..

does anyone have any pointers/tips on how they have theirs up?

The condensation on the hose is forming droplets, which are pooling in the hose and clogging it up. Just make sure the hose, from the ultrasonic humidifier to the viv, is on a downward slant, and it should be fine.

Take note, fogging does not replace misting - you'll still need to mist occasionally to flush broms, rinse off frog poop, etc . . .

Thank you zBrinks!!
Is there a certain type humidifier that works better than others?

Also, the Lowes around here....the ppl that work there have NO clue to help me out with the fitting and ALWAYS seem to be clueless in EVERYTHING! Which makes it so much harder to look for what I need... can you give me pointers on which fitting will work with what humidifier? or how I can match them up? ops:

when the tube goes into the tank put a piece of thred in the end of the hose so that the water soaks throw it and drips into the tank. if not it will block the fog.make sure that the hoses have no low spots in them so the water doesn't collect in them.

I used a Relion brand humidifier that I bought at Wal-Mart. I bought a gravel cleaner from the pet store and just friction fit it, minus the clear plastic part, to the fog opening. I noticed that the fog was inconsistent, and after some investigation, noticed that the gravel cleaner had a little valve in it, designed to reduce backflow. A tiny screwdriver popped it right out, and now I have quick and easy fog. This works great for a single tank, and with a couple of T fittings, should be adaptable to several with little trouble.

As for the fog line getting clogged, make sure that the line doesn't have any dips where water can collect. It doesn't take much condensation at all to block the line, so you may have to play with it a bit to get it right.

Also, I find that placing the humidifier on the ground works best for me, because the extra condensation drips back into the humidifier, where it can get turned back into fog....
