Default PVC plastic

Does anyone know where you can get the black PVC plastic often used in snake racks?

This website has an example of what it looks like. Not sure if Home Depot carries it.

How thick is it?

0.236 black PVC sheet is about $5-$6 per square foot

6mm black expanded PVC ~$4 per square foot

solid black PVC sheet:
http://www.mcmaster.com

expanded PVC sheet:
http://www.usplastics.com
http://www.sdplastics.com
http://www.tri-dee.com
http://www.jbcplastic.com

I'm sure there are more places and maybe even cheaper. Without knowing what he has in mind it's hard to answer the question, which is why I asked about the thickness first. I'd guess there should be a few suppliers in NJ as well.

Sorry missed that thickness in the link.

Finding solid PVC sheet in grey is pretty easy. A google search turned up several. Mcmaster has it and I think it was $8/sqft for 3/8"

If you can use the expanded PVC it tends to come several different colors and is much lighter. Sintra is one trade name for it. The vendors I posted have some 3/8".

What are you building with it? Can you use the expanded stuff?

I am not sure of the difference. I was trying to see how much it would cost to make one of those racks myself. Basically seeing if the cost savings would be worth having to spend the time doing it myself, ha.

I thought that might have been the case, which is why I was throwing out the cost numbers. It looks like it's about 25sqft. so figure $100 for the PVC. Add in the tubs, flex watt strip, and shipping costs, and you're probably up around $150 just in materials. Factor in a couple hrs of labor and you're not saving all that much.

It could be done a lot cheaper with a painted wood cabinet and sterilte tubs, IMO. Might be a bit heavier though.
