Default Substitute for LECA?

Hello folks!
I´m having trouble in find LECA here in my city on Brazil, so I was wondering if I can put aquarium gravel in the place of LECA

You can also use white Styrofoam packing peanuts. Very light and I assume,available in Brazil. :wink:

Just make sure you use the styrofoam ones and not the cornstarch ones... That could get sticky.

so how do you know if they are the styrofoam or the cornstarch ones? And why doesn't everybody just use packing peanuts? Its obviously cheaper, so is there a downside to them?

It is pretty simple, if you get the cornstarch ones wet, they melt into nothing... A great idea, no need for styrofoam filling up landfills if you don't need it.

ive seen people use lavarock. its really cheap and available almost everywhere.
