Default My First Viv Plans, Input Needed

Click the image to open in full size.

It will be 12in long x 12in wide x 18in high.

Top Left-

there will be a 1/2 hole for drainage of the false bottom, with 2in of dead space. also, there will be 4 inches of non-removable glass above the false bottom.

Top Right-

the viv will be euro style with a vent under the door, i recessed the panel 2in back to allow for the lower vent, also i will angle the background at around 80 degrees so that i can install drainage tubes for the potted plants in the GS background.

Lower Bottom-

the vent will be 2in and will have a computer fan installed above it to help with fog dissipation. 6, 1/4 holes will be drilled for my custom fog/mist system .

i am a complete noob, lmk what you think about this design. please, if you see a problme lmk so i can change it.

thanks
dakota

Looks like a good design to me. I made pots for the background of one of my vivs and ended up not even using them. What type of plants are you wanting to plant in the background?

mostly broms. i want to put the larger ones in the pots to help with securing them to the background.

I'd skip the pots and angled background alltogether. This will just use up valuable space and it's not really necessary. Broms will do just fine pinned to the background until they root. Any other epiphytic plants will be the same. In a viv this size you'll probably want to plant any soil-bound plants in the substrate, as many will get to tall if placed on the background.

I'm curoius why you included the 4" piece of glass above the false bottom?

Overall the design looks solid. Good luck and keep us updated with lots of pictures!

my thought was it would be tall enough keep the substrate away from the hinge on the front door. i probably over estimated, but with the 3in of substrate it would be gettin kinda close.
