lots of affordable driftwood on ebay. Also can be collected from streams, rivers, lakes, etc... most of the "driftwood" sold in pet stores is cyprus cuttings, not actual wood collected from the beach. There are also some heavier woods, like "mopani driftwood," which has also never been adrift - or even submerged for that matter.
