Default New macro lense!

I got a new macro lense fro x-mas, thought I would post some pics. I now have a better appreciation for good frog pics. Its not that simple to take a good shot.

Something a little artsy. Male vent in broom

I am getting a ring flash soon. So I can take even better photos.

Enjoy

I have a canon EOS 35mm SLR. I am saving my pennies for a digital SLR.

Just a note that if you are going through glass you might want to pass on the ring flash. In some cases they are great and others they are not.

Kyle
I would not be usng it through the glass due to the glare. But then again the ring flash I am looking at is a flood floresent, thus it would be on before the pic is shot. There might be some angles that would work? Have you used one like this before? The trouble Im having with the macro is not enough light. Thus the shutter speed is slow.

Any help would be great
Thanks
Scott

I use flash on every shot through the class. Almost all my frog pics are through glass. Its a matter of a good angle and being close to the glass. I use full manual to get the shutter speed and DOF I want. My next thing will be to get a slave flash and then run 2 external flashes on the tank. I just have not had the time to make the whole setup. I had planned to try it on some froglets and have never got to it.

Canon makes a dual macro flash that is very nice and most say much better than a ring flash for macros. Its what many pros use on insect pictures and etc. There are ways to make a custom setup for less money but it would most likely be a bit more weight.

Kyle
Bulk is why Im looking at the ring flash. Its only downfall is the battery pack, it mounts like an add on flash. I actully have a set of three extention tubes for my 28-80mm lense. It was only about $150 and the flash I found at a local camera shop is $120 I wish that I had thought of a conversion sooner. Im getting both for the price of a macro lense without a flash. The light loss with the tubes isn't very much, I think its only the difference of an exposure of 45 is 30 with the conversion.

There should be a FROG PHOTOGRAPHY section. Since on the subject, Kyle, how close are you to the frog usually? Also, how are you keeping your glass clean? Mine always seems to get spots of feces, foggy areas and just plain dirty. Do you wipe them off when you are going to take pic's?

I need a ZOOM Macro lense...haha...that way I won't have to get as close to the frogs. Do they make those?

I am normally 6-15 inches from the frog. With my display tanks I wipe the glass daily to keep it clean and with the other I wipe it weekly. I have not taken very many pictures in the breeder type tanks.
