nano vivarium
i while back i tried to make a nano vivarium that would be like a cross section of one side of a tiny stream i found in a rhododenderon forest. i bought a tall thin plastic tub and sculpted natural clay from the ground in the forest up the back of it and a little bit on the bottom then compressed it hard so it would stay there, then i added a tiny patch if liverwort to the bottom and filled it with about an inch of water and added a little bit of moss to the back, it looked pretty ugly so i sprayed it with ricewater for a couple of weeks then sealed it up and left it in a brightly lit but not directly sunlit area in my room and put it to the back of my mind, i checked it today and its completely grown out and the moss i added has covered the entire back and one or two other kinds have popped up too, the liverwort has covered the bottom and grows up out of the water so you dont really notice the water at all. i took some pictures today and will add them to this post when i upload them. sadly i think it is too small for any kind of animal and theres no hiding places either but i think you could make a water feature out of clay like this in an actual vivarium. i think this is a good example of something that looked a bit rubbish at first but given time grows in nicely.
all i know about the clay is that its sort of light beige and pretty iron rich as the bits exposed to air have oxidised and gone red/brown.
