Default my 2.5g nano-viv project

instead of cluttering up the "smallest tanks" thread, figured i'd start a thread for this tiny tank project.

update after working on the tank some more tonite. got my m. floribundas in the mail yesterday and figured these are a good first pass at placing them. the one in the lower left of the tank might not have enough drainage, and the one in the upper section might have too much light, but we'll see. i'll have some more options with lighting once i build a hood for the tank.

left side of teh tank, where i think i'll be mounting a miniature brom (probably N Lilliputiana) in the curve of that driftwood

They are right in scale in that tank... And it looks like the one in the third photo is in bud. They looked so tiny when I sent them, but like giants in front of the nano-tank. *grin*

nah, i think those are roots that are sticking up from when i stuffed the plant into a nook between the wood and glass.

and yeah, they do look a lot bigger in front of that little tank. awesome plants, tho, thanks! You think the lighting and positioning looks like it will be alright? any early warning signs with these on health, aside from the normal plant stuff?

I'd watch the top plant, it might be a bit bright for it. If the leaves start to yellow, then it is too bright. Way too bright and they will actually burn (you'll see black or white scalds on the tops of the leaves). That is not likely to happen under lights though. Signs of water stress in these are crispy leaf edges, you shouldn't have a problem with water. I'd say they are going to be far happier in this setup than they ever were at my house...

Normal plant stuff. Orchids aren't rocket science. Rocket science isn't even rocket science anymore... *grin*

I had an M. Snowbird that I kept in some tanks for its culture...but after a while any tanks with a 12" depth were too narrow for its leafspan. If those floribundas take to the viv, be prepared for possible removal.

Everything looks well scaled for the tank. Wouldn't know it was a 2.5 at all.

update. got a couple small broms from Ken at Peace of the Tropics, and another mini orchid as well. These should spruce up the tank a bit more.
