Default My first vivarium!

Hi guys!
Here is a pic of my first vivarium. Im going to keep a powder blue tinc. All I have to add is my springtails. Any suggestions?

P.S. The moss and cypranthus on the wood are just little tests.

You'll need to host those images somewhere on the web. I use www.imageshack.us

Looks good! The only suggestion I'd make is maybe some larger vines, or more vines, for frog security.

Talking Re: My first vivarium!

Thanks frogface! I still have some more vines so I will make sure to add them. I was also wondering if there was any way to add springtails without just dumping the whole container in. Any ideas?

Here's what I do:

Get a larger container, put in some natural charcoal (rinse it off, it's pretty sooty), add the container of springs and about 1/2" or so of distilled water. Throw in some food, such as a few pieces of rice, mushroom, or yeast. They will breed in there and you'll have your own little springtail factory.

I use a turkey baster to remove some of the springs. I tilt the container and the springs float on the water. Suck them out, squirt out some of the excess water, and squirt the rest into the frog tank.

I'm assuming that you're culturing fruit flies as the main diet. Powder Blues are pretty large and it would take a lot of springtails to feed even one frog.

The cypranthus will work great on the wood. I would just wrap little bit of moss around the bottom of it so when you mist it holds some of the moisture a little longer.

Thanks Jex, Ill make sure to do that. Yeah I am culturing fruit flies as the main diet. I just want springtails to clean up mold and such and as an additional snack.

When you get to BYU look me up. I literally live five minutes away from campus.
