Default New Exoterra 18 cube for Vent trio

Here is a photo of the viv I made after returning from IAD with an adult trio of D. Vent 'Iquitos'. I know - needs more plants. They always get so overgrown in a few months that I hesitate to add as many plants as I want, besides my budget didn't allow for any more!

I really like the wood slab you have in there and your general layout. Your vents will be all over every inch of that tank. My group of Iquitos really spends a lot of time in the broms, I have some "extra" N. ampullaceas that I didn't use in my tank, if you would like them send me a PM. Well done on that tank and good luck with the Iquitos.

Red vents are awesome frogs. For some reason, the one on the right looks HUGE. Ironic enough, my amazonicus pair (Synonymous to Iquitos/redvents) spend alot of time on the floor, whereas the other lone female hides out in the upper broms.

Really nice job. I say if you are happy with it then just leave it and let the plants fill in. You have a lot of leaf litter and that is one plus on your side. I really like the setup and I too would just let the plants that are in there grown in. Not every piece of natural habbitat of these frogs is over grown and thickly planted.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. I decided to go with a leaf litter floor vs. my usual pillow moss based on Richard's talk at IAD (more natural). Tyler - the vents are huge (for thumbs). I got them as an adult trio from Rob (rozdaboff) at IAD based on their enormous size.

Gadget bob, very cool! May I ask where you got the leaf litter from?

I took the leaf litter from my back yard. We have a lot of oaks and I gathered some of their leaves, microwaved them to (hopefully) kill any nasties. I then put them in a bag and ground them up 'cause I think they look better in small pieces.

Very cool. I'm thinking of doing something similar for my viv. Bravo.

Here's an update on my Vent trio tank after 1 year. Getting overgrown (except for the orchid on the back wall that has lost most of it's growth). Not surprising due to the lack of air movement. I think a small fan would be a good idea. No breeding behavior from the Vents. I am becoming concerned that they may all be females (see photo).
