Default O so many mistakes

This is the outcome of one mistake after another. There's still some kinks that I have to work out, like escaping fruit flies, yellowie water, and some patches of GS that I missed. I might change the water feature too. Any suggestions? The back is a little bare.

I don't think it looks too bad--perhaps a little choked with plants. I might suggest putting a flow restrictor on your waterfall to slow it down a bit.

Yeah, I figured that some of the plants won't make it cause this is my first time working with them so I bought extra. The waterfall is actually suppose to be real slow and low but I stuck a pebble in the tubing and it sprays out like that. Didn't like how it looked so I did this instead.

,,,also noted that you have an air plant down on the ground to the right--move it to the top or it will rot.

Your last pic...just to the right of where the water lands. I could be mistaken, but isn't that a tillandsia?

It looks like you want the waterfall to flow down the river rocks that are attached to the GS. If you want to get the water to flow down like that, you need to break it up from being a nice stream. I did something like this with my 75 and it works perfectly:
(sorry for the crap image, I'm a little off today.)
Click the image to open in full size.

I made mine out of slate tile that I found at Lowe's/HD, it's like 2.50 for a 12"x12" piece that's 1/2" thick. Break off pieces of slate for the top and bottom and two small pieces for the sides. Silicone the slate pieces togethere and silicone your tube so that it's shooting straight up into the top piece of slate. This will cause it to wet the top and sides and come out as a wheed as opposed to a stream. If you're totally confused on how I made it I'll do some better drawings and see if I can take some pics of mine. It needs serviced anyway.

Thanks for the advice about the waterfall. I've been looking around for slate, since that was what I first wanted, but only found a big and expensive piece at a crafts store. Which part of Home Depot did you find it in?

Hey, Mistakes are part of the learning process. that viv looks great to me, maybe in person you notice the imperfections you mentiond.. This is what I suggest. Turn off the water pump and syphon the water out.. let the vivarium dry out for 2 days with the lid off. use silicone and coco and cover some of the bare spots in the background. Use silicon and glue some moss of any kind-or use the long fibers from the coco bedding- all around the exit of your waterfall. This will help "break" the stream of water and help it fall down, and not shoot out like that... You could also use rock just like the ones under the water outlet and silicon it so it blocks the water from shooting out and stick some moss or coco around that.. Remember your never "done" building your vivarium till the frogs go in. After that, it gets harder to work on it.
The yellow water is a good thing and wanted by most users here over clear water. no problems there..

I think you should change the thread name to " Vivarium learning process"

Looking good!
Frank
