Re: Mantellas won't call?
How long has it been actually? They aren't triggered by sudden storms, so it can take a few weeks for them to warm up to breeding. Food changes also help... I feed lighter in the dry season, and usually change them to a richer food (and LOTS of it) when they go into the wet season.
Also, here are how our wet/dry seasons differ:
- DRY: I don't mist at all and use screen lids. The tanks are set up with a drainage layer, substrate, and a thick layer of leaf litter in a particular way. There is ALWAYS water in the drainage layer (and there is an open pond that gives me and the frogs access to this) which keeps the substrate moist while the top of the leaf litter dry. The frogs typically spend much of their time buried in the humid areas, and always have access to the pond water. I refill the water to keep it at an ideal level. I don't change the lighting cycle, they don't need it. I fed them the same amount of times per week (1-3x, I feed less often than others), but I feed them less, and a specific food item (usually FF based at this point).
- WET: Mostly glass top, drench the tank (and suck out the extra water after) a few times a week, and feed heavily with a heavier food (typically correctly sized crickets). Usually after a couple of weeks the males will start calling, and I'll settle to just misting especially since by that point the tank is saturated (driftwood, leaf litter, etc).
This was primarily developed for a bit of a more extreme Mantella (M. expectata which is just about a desert species), but it may give you clues to help you out - primarily you may need a heavier drenching rain in the morning and just feed them heavier since food makes a difference.
