Favorite Quotes, Phrases, Ec.
I was(am) reading a novel by Patrick McGinley titled "Foggage". I was moved by a sentence of which I will shorten, "...their friendship a tale of opportunities missed, a fragment without resolution."
For some reason this resonated within me, and I sat and pondered it for a while. I came to the conclusion that the sentence itself has many implications which can be "read" on many different levels. In short, it meant something to me.
Care to share something that moved or inspired you?

Re: Favorite Quotes, Phrases, Ec.
I will add a quote that never fails to stir me:
President Kennedy:
"What kind of peace do we seek? [I] am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living. Not merely peace in our time but peace for all time. Our problems are manmade - therefore, they can be solved by man. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal."
Just timeless.

Re: Favorite Quotes, Phrases, Ec.
This is soul, and beyond that, real.
Ani Difranco-"AnyDay"
"Anyday"
I will lean into you
and you can be the wind
I will open up my mouth
and you can come rushing in
you can rush in so hard
and make it so I can't breathe
I breathe too much anyway
I can do that anyday
I just wish I knew who you were
I wish you'd make yourself known
probably you don't know I'm her
the woman you want to call home
I'll keep my ear to the wall
I'll keep my eye on the door
'cause I've heard all my own jokes
and they're just not funny anymore
I laugh too much anyway
I can do that anyday
have you ever been bent or pulled
have you ever been played like strings
if I could see you I could strum you
I could break you
make you sing
but I guess you can't really see the wind
it just comes in and fills the spaceand everytime something moves
you think that you have seen its face
and I've always got my guitar to play
but I can do that anyday
Another favorite of her's, "Buildings and Bridges"...
Some songs should be "sung"...

Re: Favorite Quotes, Phrases, Ec.
Desiderata
by Max Ehrmann
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be
greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career
however humble;
it is a real possession in the
changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you
to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit
to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham,
drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

My favorite comes from my Father...
"Son, you can be right, or you can be happy... But not both"
This has helped me quite a bit through the years.

I had a teacher who always said ''if you want a helping hand, try the one at the end of your wrist''.

The Golden Rule
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
-o-
This applies greatly in our hobby, especially with the occasional dipwad coming along scamming us (either overtly or inadvertently).
Treat your fellow hobbyists (and heck, while we're at it, all humans ... ) as you wish to be treated.
