Default Toxicity

I am curious, does anyone know what the most toxic animal living today is? I have heard everything from California newts, P. terriblis, "x" venomous snake, sea slugs, etc.

I was hoping someone had some data on this.

Thanks!

When I googled your question, I kept getting the same animals mentioned over and over. I saw terribilis mentioned a lot (although I was dismayed on one website that talked about them, but posted a picture of a mantella).

However, many of the sites listed the box jelly fish at the top.

Also, I think "poison dart frog" doesn't go far enough. I believe the level of toxicity varies within species. So that list may have been a little too simplistic, but it's a start!

P. terribilis is the most toxic vertebrate in the world. Taricha are high up there too as are puffers.

If you watch the actual show, they say the Terribilis, although they do show some other types for effect. also, the other lists may have a different criteria than "animal planet's"
