Default Best way to sell a Nikon D100& specialty lens?

It seems a lot of people on this board are into photography as a side hobby, so I am hoping some of you might have some suggestions for me. I am wondering what the best venue is to sell a Nikon D100 camera body? I also have a very expensive image stabilizing specialty lens I bought separately to go with this that I need to sell as well.
E-Bay's fees have gotten so high that I don't think that is necessarily the best venue. I know that there are some used camera dealers that buy and sell however, I don't know if they buy from the general public and what the margins are and I am wondering if this is a worthwile avenue? Has anyone had experience going this route and would you be able to sell for more than on E-Bay? Or do you think there is a store like this that might trade for a D40 or one of the plastic body Nikons? I love the D100 but it is the metal body and due to the weight, I need one of the lighter plastic body ones so I am hoping to find a place I can trade one for the other, or sell the D100 so that I can buy the D40 and or other lighter smaller Nikon. The lens is in the same boat..very high quality but too heavy for me.
Also, any suggestions on where I might be able to find the D40 body used or are there any other Nikon cameras that are also light weight that would be a better choice but still work with the lenses I already have for the D100? I am really hoping to not have the added cost of additional lenses and since I would be keeping at least one of the lenses I already own from the Nikon, I think it would probably make the most sense to stay with this line.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions... I have been wanting to do this for a while, but just don't know where/how to start/ go about doing this.

craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums - face to face transactions

Ebay does offer a decent "guide" for an asking/expecting price

The Nikon lens should be interchangable. Which lens do you have? Do you have more than one? Ritz/Wolfe Camera here in Atlanta does do trade in's but I do not think they sell used cameras.

Thanks for the ideas guys...any more would be appreciated as well, so keep adding please...
Candy... I didn't know Ritz/ Wolf did trade ins... is that all locations? have you tried that? Do you know what their trade values are and can you also trade lenses towards whatever you are getting? The lens I want to trade is a Nikon lens with image stabilization... I think it goes to 200?... will have to check though. It was extremely expensive though... the lens I want to keep is a cheap lightweight 70-300 sigma or quantaray one that fits the Nikon D100 and is a good catch-all... I know it won't last forever but it is lighter in weight which is better for me as I can't carry a bag that is too heavy.. hence wanting to go to the D40 or another plastic body camera... do you think that trading the body + the lens (which was over $500 just for the lens alone) would be enough to get close to the cost of the D40 body on its own or do they give you a very low trade value? I dont' care if the D40 is new or used, just thought maybe I could do an even trade or close to it with adding in my good lens....

Also, does anyone know if there is a camera exchange of some sort? Online or otherwise where you might be able to do an exchange like this? ANy and all suggestions would be appreciated... I am trying to do this before a holiday vacation, so want to consider all options before deciding how to sell or preferably trade....

And yes, I do know how to use E-Bay to check for comparative costs and figure out a fair selling price as I have a lot of experience selling ebay, I just think their fees are too high and I will incur too much cost that way taking away from my trade value.

Thanks,
Marissa

I don't think you will get an even trade. They quoted my sister $150 for the D70 body and $250 for the D70 plus the 18mmx70mm lens. I think the Ritz close to down town is the best one to go to.

I might actually be interested in the D100 body only. I am looking for a cheap body for my little sister. She is really in to photography but only has a P&S and I would love to get her in the the DSLR world and a D100 would be a great starting point. PM me more info and the what exactly the lens is that you want to sell and I might take that off your hands too.

Oh, and you can get a D40 for less than $500, in fact you can get a used D40X for $350. But I don't know what you will get out of your gear. Depends on several factors. Again, PM me the particulars, I am in the market.

I've seen D40s with bundled 18-55 lens for around $470 new, good camera in my experience.

Two places you can post:

FM Forums
Discussion Forums @ Nikonians - User menu

To post classified ads, I believe that you need to be a contributing (i.e. paying) member.

Other than that, I would also recommend Craigslist - just be careful as it seems to be the target of many a scam these days.

And - as Candy mentioned - your lens would still be good on a newer body.
